I am an adult and I would like to visit the Museum myself. May I?

The Museum defines an ‘accompanied adult’ as a caregiver who accompanies a child to the Museum. For the safety and security of our visitors, the Museum only allows visits by unaccompanied adults on pre-arranged terms. An unaccompanied adult is defined as any caregiver or adult not accompanying a child in the Museum’s age demographic of birth through 12 years old. Business meetings, special events, and attraction/school tours must be scheduled in advance with appropriate Museum staff. For security reasons, restroom facilities are for visitor use exclusively. In addition to advance scheduling, approved unaccompanied adult visitors are required to exchange their government issued photo identification for a Museum guest badge to be worn at all times while on the premises, and agree to comply with all Museum rules and regulations. Museum staff may refuse entrance to any visitor they deem to be an unaccompanied adult.

Upcoming changes to parking in Washington Park

Beginning on January 10, 2014, all visitors to Washington Park, where the Museum is located, will have to pay for parking. This is because Portland Parks & Recreation, which owns the lots, will be installing metered parking.

Why do members have to start paying for parking?

Portland Parks & Recreation, which owns and manages all public lots within Washington Park, will be installing and activating pay stations similar to what you find downtown throughout all the lots located on the south side of the park. These are the lots that serve the zoo, Portland Children’s Museum and World Forestry Center, as well as Hoyt Arboretum and the park generally.

Revenues collected from the pay stations will be reinvested in Washington Park with primary focus on improvements to access, transit and parking.

When does paid parking start?

Pay stations are now active. Paid parking is enforced every day between the hours of 9:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m., year round.

Where can I find more information?

Up-to-date information can be found at and The Museum and other attractions will also update members and visitors as new information becomes available.
