Come visit us as we join Portland in celebrating Pride weekend! Our Sunday event will include a very special Drag Queen Storytime and art activities in our Maker studio.

We’ll also be making a mural in the Maker Studio, encouraging gender nonspecific figures and superheroes. Visitors will be asked to think of the things that make them feel like a hero, the things they’re proud of, and the ways in which these skills/traits transcend binary gender stereotypes. We’ll be looking at work from LGBTQ+ visual artists, noticing our options for self-expression and celebration, and challenging our perceptions of what traditional masculinity/femininity in “heroes” looks like.

We’ll also have a small face painting station set up in the Maker Studio.

Our story time will be hosted by Ruby Q, (she/they/he) is Portland’s blue-jean drag queen and musical glamourpuss from somewhere over the rainbow. She loves the color red and anything that sparkles and believes in the magic of dressing with your whole heart. Ruby has been seen in local art balls, at kid-friendly piano cabarets they host in the neighborhood, and online at @rubyqpdx (FB and Instagram).
