Portland Taiko
April 1, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Portland Taiko blends the tradition of Japanese taiko drumming with a sense of Asian American identity, creativity, and empowerment. Through innovation and excellence in taiko, Portland Taiko affirms Asian American pride, inspires audiences, builds community, and educates about our heritage and culture.

FASCA Taiwanese Toy Display and YoYo Demo
April 1, 1:30 – 4 p.m. in the Field Station and Theater
Portland Children's Museum is proud to partner with FASCA to present a traditional Taiwanese toy display and yo-yo demonstrations. Explore a variety of toys from Taiwan in the Field Station, and then head to the theater to practice your yo-yo skills. Yo-yo demonstrations are at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. in the Theater.

Just Uke It! Ukulele Class
April 2, 10 a.m. in the Theater
Learn to play the ukulele! In this class, taught by Aaron Canwell for the beginner ukulele student, we’ll focus on learning chords and new songs! Song selection will be from a wide variety of music including standard ukulele repertoire, children's music, American folk music and recognizable pop and rock songs! Ukuleles are available to borrow but you are also welcome to bring your own. All ages are welcome, no experience necessary. Registration Required.

Cost: $15 per family* Space is limited, register online.
*A one to one child to caregiver ratio is recommend to ensure everyone fully benefits from this learning opportunity. Caregivers must stay for the duration of the workshop.
Admission to the Portland Children's Museum is not included in this price.

Penny’s Puppets

Join us for a joyful live performance that use puppets, story, and song to ignite the imagination and fill the Theater with excitement and laughter. Penny's Puppet Productions is a professional one-woman puppet company dedicated to making the world a better place, one puppet show at a time!

BRAVO Youth Orchestra
April 8 and April 22, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Join the Marsalis Wind Ensemble from BRAVO Cesar Chavez for an outstanding musical performance. BRAVO transforms the lives of underserved youth through intensive orchestral music instruction emphasizing collaboration, promoting self-confidence, and creating a community where children thrive. Inspired by El Sistema in Venezuela, BRAVO’s vision is to establish in Oregon a network of youth orchestras for social change serving both urban and rural communities with a high concentration of poverty.

Micah & Me Music Show

The Micah & Me Children's Music show is a dance party for toddlers starring their biggest fans, At-Home Dads! Micah & Me believe in the importance of music and dance for children 0 to 7 and the young at heart. They connect youngsters of all ages with live fun filled music. Micah & Me are outstanding performers, who bring fun, high-energy, and great music to every show!

Kids Company NW Spring Tour

Join Northwest Children’s Theater performance of Welcome to Willoughby. This show is full of music from the 1930s and 1940s, involves time travel and inspiration from The Twilight Zone!

Earth Day!

Join us for a fun-filled day celebrating Mother Earth! From crafts with repurposed materials, a recycling obstacle course, and live worms, there’s something for everyone this Earth Day at Portland Children’s Museum.

Red Yarn: Folksongs & Puppetry for Families 
April 24, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Red Yarn, Andy Furgeson, is a dynamic family performer and teaching artist in Portland, Oregon. He weaves folksongs and puppetry into engaging shows for all ages. With his energetic performances and lush recordings, Red Yarn reinvigorates American folklore for younger generations.

Pop-Up Adventure Playground
April 29, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Portland Children’s Museum is proud to host a Pop-Up Adventure Playground, a celebration of child-directed play, stocked with different materials (such as cardboard boxes, tape, and string) in our Outdoor Adventure Exhibit. A temporary version of the classic adventure playground model, this create-your-own-adventure play space gently introduces themes of risk and freedom by welcoming people of all ages and abilities to play and create together.


Dance n’ Paint
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Groove and move to music with Meg and Jason while your use your feet to create a colorful dance step collaborative. Use your feet to stomp bright steps of paint onto a blank dance floor. Come show us your best moves!


Color Mixing Water Play
1:30 – 3 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Explore the magic of mixing colors in water. Join Max in this entrancing activity that helps build fine motor skills and supports learning about colors and liquid dilution. 

Maker Monday
3:30 – 4:30pm in the Maker Studio
Gather together to play, make, and share in our one-of-a-kind space. Guided by our Maker Space Specialist, each week we’ll make something new so don’t miss Monday afternoons in the Maker Studio.


Mask Making
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Create a fantastical mask with Emlyn in the Wonder Corner. We’ll get inspired by masks from around the world, design our own unique mask shapes, and then decorate!

Microscope Explorers
2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the Field Station
See the outdoors in a whole new way! Bring your curiosity and find out how different materials look at a microscopic level. We’ll collect our favorite specimens and examine different textures, patterns, and colors using a handheld digital microscope.


Make n’ March Musical Instruments
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Come experiment with different sounds and rhythms on your own set of drums, harmonica, or musical invention with Dew Anna. Build a musical instrument using recycled materials and then join in a musical parade around the Museum.


Tutus and Tap Shoes
10 – 11 a.m. in the Wonder Corner
Make your own colorful tutu or learn how to turn your shoes into tap shoes with Carolyn in the Wonder Corner. When you’re done, put them on and head to the Theater to dance and play onstage.

Dance Party Storytime 
11 a.m. in the Theater
Move your body, groove to some tunes, and have blast at Ciara’s Dance Party Story Time. We’ll practice new dance steps, clap and sing along, and play with stories through movement.

Diamond Poems
2 – 3 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Join artist and educator Liz Yerby for a playful and collaborative poem project perfect for all ages. We’ll use pictures, words, and watercolor paint like a game to create simple poems that are fun to make and beautiful to look at.

Movement Lab

Join educator and dancer Evan Smiley each week for Movement Lab. This dynamic and playful program encourages self-expression and explores movement as a tool for learning. All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate!
*There are two 25-minute sessions; the first class is at 11:30 a.m. and is repeated at Noon. No registration necessary. Space is limited and available on a first come, first serve basis so everyone can move freely and safely in the theater.
