SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Story Sharing Party
September 8, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Please join us as we host several local children's book authors and storytellers as they read from their books and sing songs, sharing stories that represent some of the diverse backgrounds that make up Portland’s beautiful, modern day, cultural landscape.

Bios below:
Author Genté Shaw wrote Chloé’s Curls to explain to her then 3 year old daughter Chloé, that she is wonderfully created on purpose for a purpose. In spite of the historical prejudices surrounding mixed race children, Genté and her husband DJ are determined to raise their now three daughters to understand and believe that they are beautifully whole individuals who possess the best of their mother and father. With their story, the Shaws are inspiring children around the world to believe that they too are wonderfully created and full of purpose-no matter their skin color or hair textures. Montrell "Chillin' the Poet" Goss grew up in North Portland. He struggled with reading and writing but overcame with hard work. He has published 6 books. As part of a mission to inspire and empower youth, author Montrell “Chillin’ the Poet” Goss, has put out a children’s book titled, Chillin’ the Courageous Coyote Meets the Young Kids. Chillin' is a story about three kids and a coyote named Chillin’. The children were frightened and ran away when they see Chillin', but clues were left by one of the kids named Blue for Chillin' to find. Will they meet again?

Taco Dragon: Meet & Greet
September 6, 7, 8, & 9  at select Storytimes
Meet Taco Dragon from the hilarious best-selling book Dragons Love Tacos by award-winning team Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri. Dragons love tacos. They love chicken tacos, beef tacos, great big tacos, and teeny tiny tacos. So, if you want to lure a bunch of dragons to your party, you should definitely serve tacos. Buckets and buckets of tacos. Unfortunately, where there are tacos, there is also salsa. And if a dragon accidentally eats spicy salsa . . . oh, boy. You’re in red-hot trouble. Join us for lively Storytime with Taco Dragon!

Music Makers: Tinker and Take Apart

Makers of all ages will be encouraged to make thoughtful observations and guesses, exploring what makes these objects work and how we might be able to use them for brand new ideas.
