Art Education Internships

Arts In Focus Internship
For many children, their first creative experiences take place at the Museum. Our Arts In Focus programs are one-time or multiple-visit art projects based on children’s own interests and questions about the world. Each program includes pre- and post-visit resources that enrich their experience. Programs are offered on-site at the Museum or off-site at their school. Interns will collaborate with a team of museum educators on developing content, ordering and preparing materials, setting up, delivering, cleaning up, and debriefing each Arts In Focus program. Interns will also have the opportunity to work with the Play Series. See description below.

Play Series
Clay and Play & Paint and Play
Our Play Series is designed specifically for our youngest visitors, children 18 - 48 months, and their caregivers. In these sensory-rich programs, children have a chance to discover the properties of clay and paint by exploring different age-appropriate activity stations. The purpose of the program is to provide children with a lot of choice, and to offer them sensory experiences with creative materials in order to spark their imaginations. The program begins with a story, and ends with a healthy snack. Families are invited to participate in Tots, Tales & Tunes, which takes place immediately after the studio program in the adjacent exhibit. Interns are scheduled from 9 am - noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays and collaborate with a team of museum educators on setting up, delivering, cleaning up, and debriefing each program.

Studio Internship Description
The Children’s Museum operates two year-round studios for all ages, the Clay Studio and Wonder Corner, and one studio for children age 6 and up, the Garage. Our current intern needs focus on the Wonder Corner, an open drawing studio, and the Garage, where children create sculpture out of recycled materials and power tools (see below for open dates of each position). Activities are facilitated by Museum Educators, who encourage play and learning through inquiry, demonstration, and interaction with families. The Studio Intern will assist Museum Staff with ongoing program preparation, implementation, maintenance, documentation and evaluation. The intern will ensure an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for young children, and encourage creative exploration in positive, open-ended ways.
Two positions available: One in Garage, One in Wonder Corner.
