Bruce the Bear: Meet & Greet
Meet Bruce the Bear in person during select storytimes at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. 

Red Yarn: Folksongs & Puppetry for Families
December 1, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Red Yarn, Andy Furgeson, is a dynamic family performer and teaching artist in Portland, Oregon. He weaves folksongs and puppetry into engaging shows for all ages. With his energetic performances and lush recordings, Red Yarn reinvigorates American folklore for younger generations.

FACT Santa
December 2, 8 – 10 a.m. *Museum opens to the public at 10 a.m.
Join us for a low-sensory event with a special guest, Santa! Hosted in partnership with our friends at FACT Oregon, we invite families with children experiencing disabilities to play in the Museum, enjoy snacks courtesy of FACT and Pix Patisserie, and meet Santa in a low-pressure environment. Families who come during the Sensory Santa event are welcome to stay and play in the Museum after it opens to the public at 10 a.m. The event is free to attend, but please pre-register through this link

Penny's Puppets
December 6, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Join us for a joyful live performance that use puppets, story, and song to ignite the imagination and fill the Theater with excitement and laughter. Penny's Puppet Productions is a professional one-woman puppet company dedicated to making the world a better place, one puppet show at a time.

Micah & Me
December 8, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Come dance and sing along with Micah & Me! Micah & Me host toddler dance parties regularly throughout the Portland Metro area and they have an uncommon ability to connect with those young at heart.

Ukulele Class: Play Along, Sing Along, Dance Along
December 10, 10 – 11 a.m. in the Theater
Come learn the ukulele at Portland Children's Museum. Play along with and encourage your little ones to explore the ukulele, experience rhythm and dance with percussion instruments and scarves, and watch them take the stage. We welcome experienced ukulele players as well as brand new beginners. Taught by Aaron from the band Micah & Me. Bring the entire family for a musical adventure! 

Cost: $15 per family, space is limited, register online. (Maximum of 20 registrations per class)

*A one to one child to caregiver ratio is recommended to ensure everyone fully benefits from this learning opportunity
*Caregivers must stay for the duration of the class
*Amission to Portland Children's Museum is not included in this price

The Child's Frightful Fantasy (presented by Ping & Woof Opera and Necessity Arts Collective)
December 10, 12:15 – 1:15 p.m. in the Theater
A children's opera presented with dance, puppets, and a sing-a-long! When an angry child defies his mother, destroying his room and torturing animal friends instead of finishing his homework, the broken furniture, wounded pets, and even disgruntled Mr. Arithmetic himself decide to teach the boy a lesson. The 20 characters in Maurice Ravel's whimsical opera are imaginatively portrayed here by just 5 singers. Best of all, children and the young at heart in the audience can join in the performance as a sing along chorus, with the aid of puppets, and a design inspired by the American pop art icon Roy Lichtenstein. 

Gift Glazing
December 19, 10 a.m. – noon & December 20, 2 – 4 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Glaze your own ceramic creation or choose from a variety of pre-made pieces. After glazing, the Museum fires your ceramic piece in our kiln, which causes the glazes to harden and change color so they are darker, brighter, and very shiny. Now your masterpiece is food safe and waterproof, too!

*Prices start at $3 for pre-made pieces. Price includes piece, glazing and firing. If you are glazing your own creation, the cost to glaze will be the same cost as it was to fire. Glazed pieces are available for pick up one week after creation. This is the last chance to glaze a piece before the Museum holiday closure (All pieces glazed by December 20 will be ready to pick up December 23. The Museum is closed December 24 and 25). 

Kid's Company NW Holiday Musical: A Mistletoe Mystery
December 22, 10:30 a.m. in the Theater
Kid's Company NW presents a holiday musical you won't forget! Kid's Company NW is a musical theater performing troupe comprised of talented kids between the ages of 8 and 14. Immerse yourself in a fun story and a whole lot of singing and dancing. After the show, head up to the stage to meet the stars! All ages welcome.

New Year's at Noon
December 31, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.*
Get those noisemakers and resolutions ready, because it’s that time again for New Year’s at Noon. Join us for multiple New Year’s countdowns, MAD SCIENCE dry ice experiments, art and craft activities and a dance party.

*Museum closes at 3 p.m.

Storytime
11 a.m. & 2 p.m. in the Treehouse
Gather round for Storytime at Portland Children’s Museum. Storytime features children’s books enjoyed by children of all ages and their caregivers read aloud by Museum Staff. Not only is Storytime fun, reading aloud with children enhances their language proficiency, communication, and listening skills. Reading stories out loud together can also help children create real world connections, prepare them for academic success, and supports their imagination and creativity.  


MONDAYS

Advanced Tool Time 
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Maker Studio
Learn to safetly use saws, drills, and other exciting tools to design and build your own projects from recycled materials. Join us for advanced tinkering and building activities facilitated by our Maker Space Specialist, Mike. All ages are welcome!

Origami Gift Boxes
10 a.m. – noon in the Art Gallery
Make a colorful box out of folded paper with Leslie. From simple to more sophisticated designs, learn diverse ways to fold paper to create one-of-a-kind gift boxes.

Silly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
9:30 – 11 a.m. in the Field Station
Join Amy for a morning of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) for little ones. This program features hands-on activities to help develop skills in pre-writing, sorting, counting, matching, and measuring.

Bead Snowflakes
12:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Make a shimmering snowflake out of pipe cleaners and beads with Max. Learn amazing facts about frozen fractals and practice fine motor skills as we create 3D art that celebrates the beauty of winter.


WEDNESDAYS

DIY Scarf Making
10 a.m. – Noon in the Wonder Corner
Wrap up for the winter at the Portland Children's Museum with this cozy craft! Design and decorate your own polar fleece scarf with pockets, buttons, patterns and more. 

Mini Terrarium Making
12:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the Field Station
Grow plants in style by building and decorating a mini terrarium with Jered! Fill it with charcoal, soil, pebbles and sand, then add some small plants for your very own window-garden.


THURSDAYS

Gentle Music for Babies & Pre-Toddlers with Mr. Ben 
10 – 11 a.m. in the Treehouse
Music is magic for children’s cognitive development, lighting up different regions of their rapidly developing brains in ways that nothing else does. Partnering with Portland Children’s museum, Mr. Ben brings his music directly to the younger set. His songs and the energy of the show are geared towards babies in arms, pre-toddlers, and children of any age that engage with calmer energy.  

Stitch in Time: Sewing
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Learn simple stitches and hand sewing techniques as you make your own stitched bag with Dew Anna. Embellish your bag to reflect your unique style, or decorate it as a hand-made gift to give. 


FRIDAYS

Winter Watercolor Magic
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
In this special painting session, we’ll explore the concept of negative space. We’ll also use salt to add a visual texture to our paintings!

Create a snow-friend sock buddy! Learn techniques from Grace for making your own cuddly stuffed toy to keep or give as a gift.

Use your senses to explore a variety of winter-inspired scents and textures in our sensory boxes with Meg. Hone your intuitive powers to sleuth the mysteries inside each box.

Pinecone Critters
Noon – 1:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Learn about different conifer trees in Washington Park and turn a pinecone into your own woodland critter with Jasmine.
