Banfield Presents: Pet Vet Play Day 
May 2, 16, & 30, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and May 5, 5 – 6:30 p.m. in the Pet Hospital
Help our stuffed animals in the Pet Hospital get patched up alongside a professional vet tech. You’ll learn about the tools in the Pet Hospital and can ask questions about how to become a veterinarian.

Penny's Puppets

Join us for a joyful live performance that uses puppets, story, and song to ignite the imagination and fill the Theater will excitement and laughter. Penny’s Puppet Productions is a professional one-woman puppet company dedicated to making the world a better place, one puppet show at a time!

Sign Language, Music, & Movement Classes Presented by Tiny Talkers 
May 5, 10:15 a.m. – Noon

10:15 – 11 a.m. Music, Movement & Signing for preschoolers (ages 2 – 5)
Little movers and shakers ages 2-5 and their caregivers will sing, dance, hear stories and learn some sign language in this lively interactive class.

11:15 a.m. – Noon Sign, Sing & Play (ages 9 months – 2.5 years)
Sign language, music, and movement class for ages 9 months to 2.5 years and their caregivers.

Cost: $15 per family* Space is limited, register online.
*A one to one child to caregiver ratio is recommend to ensure everyone fully benefits from this learning opportunity. Caregivers must stay for the duration of the workshop.
Admission to the Portland Children's Museum is not included in this price.

Banfield Presents: Millionth Pet Exam
May 5, 5 – 6:30 p.m.
Banfield Pet Hospital presents the Millionth Pet Exam Celebration! Children and their families are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal from home to be nurtured and "patched up" by a Banfield veterinarian and technician. This exhibit honors the one million stuffed "pets" that PCM's Pet Hospital has cared for since its founding. Pets play a very significant role in families' lives, and the Millionth Pet Exam aims to highlight this, along with instill a sense of compassion for animals in children.

Zoo to You: Critter Coverings 
May 6 & 26, 11 – 11:45 am in the Theater
Feathers for flying, scales for slithering, fur for fluffing. Use your scientific observation skills to discover how animals use their body coverings to survive. 

Clay Workshop: Terra Cotta Pots
May 13, 9:15-10:45 am
Come celebrate spring and Mother’s Day! Caregivers and children will work together to create a container to hold a plant out of traditional red clay. Learn techniques for coil pots, pinch pots, and slab construction, and then choose the best method for your project. These projects will be fired but not glazed. Unglazed terra cotta is very porous, allowing it to breathe and absorb water to keep your plant hydrated and healthy. With exclusive access to the Clay Studio, don’t miss this special opportunity to play, make, and share at Portland Children’s Museum. All materials included. Dress to mess.
Pieces will be ready to pick up 2 weeks after the workshop. Plants not included.

Live Pet Portraits

Meet Sam and Ollie, two big cuddly dogs as they sit for their portraits. Grab some pastels and join Ruth and Liz as they draw the likeness of the Museum’s favorite pooches. 

Banfield Presents: The Banfield Pet Academy®
May 14, 20, & 27, 11 a.m. – Noon in the Theater & Pet Hospital
Show-and-tell presentation from a licensed veterinarian about how to keep your pets healthy (15 min), followed by hands-on play and learning time in the pet hospital (15 min). Two sessions per date.

Micah & Me
May 19, 11 a.m. in Outdoor Adventure
Come dance and sing along with Micah & Me! Micah & Me host toddler dance parties regularly throughout the Portland Metro area and they have an uncommon ability to connect with those young at heart!

Ukulele Class: Play Along, Sing Along, Dance Along Group Ukulele Class
May 21, 10 – 11 a.m. in the Theater
Come learn the ukulele at Portland Children's Museum. Play along with and encourage your little ones to explore the ukulele, experience rhythm and dance with percussion instruments and scarves, and watch them take the stage. We welcome experienced ukulele players as well as brand new beginners. Taught by Aaron from the band Micah & Me. Bring the entire family for a musical adventure!

Red Yarn: Folksongs & Puppetry for Families

Red Yarn, Andy Furgeson, is a dynamic family performer and teaching artist in Portland, Oregon. He weaves folksongs and puppetry into engaging shows for all ages. With his energetic performances and lush recordings, Red Yarn reinvigorates American folklore for younger generations.

Pop-Up Adventure Playground 
May 28, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Portland Children’s Museum is proud to host a Pop-Up Adventure Playground, a celebration of child-directed play, stocked with different materials (such as cardboard boxes, tape, and string) in our Outdoor Adventure Exhibit. A temporary version of the classic adventure playground model, this create-your-own-adventure play space gently introduces themes of risk and freedom by welcoming people of all ages and abilities to play and create together.

Miniature Horse Meet & Greet 
May 28, Noon – 2 p.m. on the Patio
Meet Ruby, a micro miniature horse that can’t wait to be your friend. Learn about these special animals from Cowgirl Kim and Cowboy Bob of Oregon Dream Ponies.

Peninsula Youth Orchestra 
May 28, 2 p.m. in the Theater
Immerse yourself in music with the Peninsula Youth Orchestra, on tour from Gig Harbor, WA. This talented group of young musicians will perform and share some of their musical instrument with visitors to explore up close.

The Beast Collaborative
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Clay and Maker Studios
Join studio educators and other visitors to create giant, one-of-a-kind animals all month-long. 

Clay Studio Good Night Beast 
3:45 p.m. in the Clay Studio
Help the Clay Studio get the Beast collaborative sculpture ready for sleeping each night. This friendly clay pet needs water, a bath to get clean, and to be snuggled under a blanket so it is ready to play the next day.

Origami Pets

Learn the art of origami and create your own paper pet with Leslie. 

Water-Loving Pets Sensory Tub
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in Outdoor Adventure
Learn about different pets that LOVE playing in the water with Meg and Jason. We’ll splash around the sensory tub with familiar animal friends and discover some surprising swimmers too!


MONDAYS

Earthworm Exploration 
11 a.m. – Noon in Outdoor Adventure/Field Station
Get a first-hand look at earthworms as they wiggle through their habitat and learn some fascinating facts about our wormy friends with Zac.

Pet Rocks 
2 – 3 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Come make a new friend by transforming a simple rock into a companion animal with Max. Use a variety of materials to embellish your pet rock and take it home.

Maker Monday 
3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Maker Studio
Join us for experiments and explorations on a variety of creative topics. Guided by our Maker Space Specialist, you’ll learn and have fun investigating, making, and playing each week. 


TUESDAYS

Animal Masks 
2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Make a mask with Emlyn inspired by your favorite animal using paper and a variety of colorful materials. Put on your mask and let your animal spirit play!


WEDNESDAYS

Silly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math)
9:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Field Station
Join Amy for a morning of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) for little ones. This month features hands-on activity all about pets to help develop skills in pre-writing, sorting, counting, matching, and measuring. 

Animal Finger Puppets 
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Create your own finger puppet animal friends with Dew Anna. Using paper circles of all sizes and colors, we’ll make rabbits, baby ducks, giraffes, and unicorns that come to life when you put them on your fingers!

Stuffed Animal Storytime
2 p.m. in Tree House Adventure
Grab a friend and join us in the Tree House Adventure for stories and songs about all types of animal friends. 


THURSDAYS

Dance Party Storytime 
11 a.m. in the Theater (No Dance Party Story Time on 5/25)
Move your body, groove to some tunes, and have blast at Ciara’s Dance Party Story Time. We’ll practice new dance steps, clap and sing along, and play with stories through movement.

Diamond Poems 
2 – 3 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Join Liz for a playful and collaborative poem project perfect for all ages. We’ll use pictures, words, and watercolor paint like a game to create simple poems inspired by animals that are fun to make and beautiful to look at. 


FRIDAYS

Birdhouses
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Decorate a wooden home for your bird friends with colors and materials that birds like best with Grace. 


SATURDAYS

Animal Ears 
10:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Wonder Corner
Join Grace to construct your own set of soft ears inspired by different kinds of foxes.
