Outdoor Activity Month is designed to encourage physical activity and play in the great outdoors, which are essential components of healthy child development. Every day of the week will feature different programs or special guests in Outdoor Adventure, our 1.3 acre nature play exhibit, which will inspire you to move your body, discover beauty in unexpected places, and explore the wilder side of Portland Children’s Museum!

Come dance and sing along with Micah & Me! Micah & Me host toddler dance parties regularly throughout the Portland Metro area and they have an uncommon ability to connect with those young at heart!
UN International Youth Day: Youth Building Peace

The United Nations International Youth Day 2017 celebrates young people’s efforts towards conflict prevention and transformation, inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace. The Museum is proud to host a series of community-inspired activities to bring awareness to this important day.
Ukulele Class: Play Along, Sing Along, Dance Along
Sunday, August 13, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. in the Theater
Come learn the ukulele at Portland Children's Museum. Play along with and encourage your little ones to explore the ukulele, experience rhythm and dance with percussion instruments and scarves, and watch them take the stage. We welcome experienced ukulele players as well as brand new beginners. Taught by Aaron from the band Micah & Me. Bring the entire family for a musical adventure!

- 10:15 a.m. - 11 a.m. Music, Movement & Singing for preschoolers (ages 2-5) Little movers and shakers ages 2-5 and their caregivers will sing, dance, hear stories and learn some sign language in this lively interactive class.
- 11:15 a.m. - Noon Sign, Sing & Play (ages 9 months - 2.5 years) Sign language, music, and movement class for ages 9 months to 2.5 years and their caregivers.

CLAY WORKSHOP: Terra Cotta Pots
Sunday, August 26, 9:15 a.m.–10:45 a.m. in they Clay Studio
Children and caregivers will work together to create a unique pot for flowers and plants out of traditional red clay. Learn techniques for coil pots, pinch pots, and slab construction, and then choose the best method for your project. These projects will be fired but not glazed. Unglazed terra cotta is very porous, allowing it to breathe and absorb water to keep your plant hydrated and healthy. With exclusive access to the Clay Studio, don’t miss this special opportunity to play, make, and share at Portland Children’s Museum

Gather round for Story Time at Portland Children’s Museum. Story Time features children’s books enjoyed by children of all ages and their caregivers read aloud by Museum Staff. Not only is Story Time fun, reading aloud with children enhances their language proficiency, communication, and listening skills. Reading stories out loud together can also help children create real world connections, prepare them for academic success, and supports their imagination and creativity.

Gentle Music for Babies and Pre-Toddlers with Mr. Ben

Music is magic for children’s cognitive development, lighting up different regions of their rapidly developing brains in ways that nothing else does. Partnering with the Portland Children’s museum, Mr. Ben brings his music directly to the younger set. His songs and the energy of the show are geared towards babies in arms, pre-toddlers, and children of any age that engage with calmer energy.
