This June is Heroes Month and Portland Children's Museum is celebrating heroes of all ages and sizes. This month the Museum offers a variety of craft activities, storytimes, and outdoor activities about celebrating heroes and being your own.


Kids Food Fest 
June 4, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The mission of the Kids Food Festival is to teach families how to make balanced food choices through fun and engaging activities. 

Penny's Puppets
June 7, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Join us for a joyful live performance that uses puppets, story, and song to ignite the imagination and fill the Theater with excitement and laughter. Penny’s Puppet Productions is a professional one-woman puppet company dedicated to making the world a better place, one puppet show at a time!

Micah & Me
June 9, 11 a.m. in Outdoor Adventure
Come dance and sing along with Micah & Me! Micah & Me host toddler dance parties regularly throughout the Portland Metro area and they have an uncommon ability to connect with those young at heart!

Ukulele Class: Play Along, Sing Along, Dance Along  
June 11, 10 – 11 a.m. in the Theater
Come learn the ukulele at Portland Children's Museum. Play along with and encourage your little ones to explore the ukulele, experience rhythm and dance with percussion instruments and scarves, and watch them take the stage. We welcome experienced ukulele players as well as brand new beginners. Taught by Aaron from the band Micah & Me. Bring the entire family for a musical adventure!

Sign Language, Music, & Movement Classes Presented By Tiny Talkers
Music, Movement & Signing for preschoolers (ages 2 – 5)
June 16, 10:15 – 11 a.m.
Little movers and shakers ages 2-5 and their caregivers will sing, dance, hear stories and learn some sign language in this lively interactive class.

Clay Workshop: Ceramic Masks 
June 17, 9:15 – 10:45 a.m.
Masks have been used throughout history for protection, disguise, decoration, entertainment, and ceremony in all parts of the world. Masks have been made out of many different materials as well. Learn about masks, see some examples and design your own decorative ceramic mask to hang on a wall at home. We’ll color our pieces with underglazes after they are built, which transform to vibrant colors after firing in the kiln. With exclusive access to the Clay Studio, don’t miss this special opportunity to play, make, and share at Portland Children’s Museum.

Superhero Day
June 18, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. 
Send up the signal in the sky, it’s time for Superhero Celebration! Dust off your super costume and unite with other caped crusaders at the Museum. Meet out-of-this-world guests, Portland Superhero Coalition, and participate in a variety of fun activities to test your superhuman powers. Don't forget your camera; this will be an event to remember.

Red Yarn 
June 19, 11 a.m. 
Red Yarn, Andy Furgeson, is a dynamic family performer and teaching artist in Portland, Oregon. He weaves folksongs and puppetry into engaging shows for all ages. With his energetic performances and lush recordings, Red Yarn reinvigorates American folklore for younger generations.

KIDS Team Ambulance Visit 
June 24, 1 –3 p.m.
Meet the outstanding pediatric care providers and explore an ambulance up close with KIDS Teams, the mobile ICU from Randall Children’s Hospital. Get to know some of the heroes in your community and learn about the great work they do helping children and families.


Hero Masks
9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Box Office
Be a hero to Portland Children’s Museum and make a donation that directly benefits our Access Programs. As a thank you, you’ll get a fun superhero mask you can decorate!


Hop, Stop, Dancing, Prancing Story Time
10 – 11:30 a.m. in the Theater
Come move and shake at this special story time for little ones. Join Zac for this dynamic and playful program that encourages self-expression and explores stories and movement as tools for learning. All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate!   

Maker Monday 
3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Maker Studio
Join us for experiments and explorations on a variety of creative topics. Guided by Mike, Maker Space Specialist, you’ll learn and have fun investigating, making, and playing each week.   


Card Making
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Join Max to make a colorful card for a hero in your life. Show your appreciation for all they do with a hand-made card and envelope. Give your card to your hero, or leave it with us and we will mail it for you.

3 – 4 p.m. in Outdoor Adventure
Bring your adventurous spirit and practice using a bow and arrow to hit a target with Emlyn. 


Silly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
9:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Field Station
Join Amy for a morning of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) for little ones. This month features hands-on activities to help develop skills in pre-writing, sorting, counting, matching, and measuring.  

Flower Pot Glazing
1 – 2 p.m. in Outdoor Adventure
Brighten your garden with a hand-painted terra cotta flower pot. Join Dew Anna to choose a colorful array of glazes and decorate a pot that any plant would be proud to call home.
*Glazed creations ready for pick-up one week after glazing. Fee for materials apply.


Comic Creations
11 a.m. in Wonder CornerLet your imagination run wild as you create your own comic!
Learn about the different parts of a comic from comic artist Liz Yerby and get inspired by her favorite comic book characters.

Super Bubbles
2 – 3 p.m. in Outdoor Adventure
Have you ever been inside a giant bubble? Here is your chance! Come play with bubbles of all shapes and sizes and learn from Liz how to make different kinds of bubble wands.


Hero Sock Puppets 10 – 11 a.m. in the Wonder Corner
Create a sock puppet inspired by your hero! Learn techniques from Grace for making your own stuffed toy and imagine what superpowers your puppet has that make the world a better place.


10 – Noon in the Wonder Corner/Outdoor Adventure 
Mix and swirl colors for a tie-dye t-shirt worthy of a superhero. Bring a shirt from home to tie-dye, or pick-up one at the Museum from our tie-dye specialists, Jasmine and Grace.

Dino Dig
3 – 4 p.m. in Outdoor Adventure
Grab your explorer’s hat and come hunt for dinosaur bones in the Dig Pit of Outdoor Adventure!   


Cape Making
10 a.m. – Noon in the Art Gallery
The signal is in the sky! Come create your own personalized superhero cape, then go forth and do great deeds!

Super Senses Mystery Boxes
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Field Station
Use your super senses to explore a variety of textures in our sensory boxes with Meg and Jason. Hone your intuitive powers to sleuth the mysteries inside each box.
