Penny’s Puppets 
November 1, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Join us for a joyful live performance that use puppets, story, and song to ignite the imagination and fill the Theater with excitement and laughter. Penny's Puppet Productions is a professional one-woman puppet company dedicated to making the world a better place, one puppet show at a time!

Early Explorer's Class (five-week series)
Session 1: 9:30-10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, November 8, 15, 29, December 6, & 13 (no class on 11/22/17)       

  • Ages: 2-3 years old with a caregiver
  • Cost: $125 (includes registration for 5 week class and all-day admission for one child and one adult on class days). 15% discount for members

From the Early Childhood Exploration classroom at the Portland Children's Museum, this six-week series will provide little learners and their adults with a unique museum experience filled with fun! Designed for 2-3 year olds and their caregivers, each hour-long class in the series has a different theme and features: play, songs, stories, movement activities, museum exhibit visits, and art and science explorations. Early Explorers will create handcrafted treasures to take home, make new friends, and experience the Museum a whole new way!

Red Yarn: Folksongs & Puppetry for Families 
November 3, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Red Yarn, Andy Furgeson, is a dynamic family performer and teaching artist in Portland, Oregon. He weaves folksongs and puppetry into engaging shows for all ages. With his energetic performances and lush recordings, Red Yarn reinvigorates American folklore for younger generations.

Crayon Making Class 
November 4, 10- 11 a.m. 
Learn how to make crayons out of bee's wax with Bee & Bloom. This class explores the importance of bees and how bee's wax can be used to create a versatile drawing material. Children will mix their own color pigments and take home a set of five handmade crayons. Perfect for drawing masterpieces or giving as a unique, handmade gift. 

Price for one child and one caregiver: $15 for members; $20 for non-members. Space is limited, register HERE.

Maker Workshop: Magnetic Painting
November 5, 10 – 11 a.m.
Watch in amazement as lines and colors race across the canvas as if by magic! Experiment and explore the properties of magnets in this fun and simple workshop with our unique magnetic paint and a collection of magnetic art making tools. All ages welcome.

Nathalia: Bilingual Kid's Music
November 5, 11 a.m.- Noon in the Theater
Nathalia uses a creative bilingual approach to engage families in a fun-filled musical concert. With themes like space exploration, dinosaurs and cruising down the Amazon River, her infectous songs will have everyone singing, dancing, and maybe even learning a little Spanish, in this multi-cultural experience!

Micah and Me 
November 10, 11 a.m. in the Theater
Come dance and sing along with Micah & Me! Micah & Me host toddler dance parties regularly throughout the Portland Metro area and they have an uncommon ability to connect with those young at heart!

Clay Workshop: Glazed Graphic Gifts
November 11, 9:15 – 10:45 a.m. in the Clay Studio
Test new glazing techniques on premade pieces. We will use stencils, stamps and silk screening to create images on ceramic tiles and ornaments. After they are finished, each piece will be a unique gift for a special person. Tiles can be used decoratively, or as a trivet to hold a hot pan out of the oven. Your clay creations are then fired in kilns right here at the Museum and will be ready for pick-up one week after the workshop. With exclusive access to the Clay Studio, don’t miss this special opportunity to play, make, and share at Portland Children’s Museum.

Ukulele Class: Play Along, Sing Along, Dance Along
November 12, 10 – 11 a.m. in the Theater
Come learn the ukulele at Portland Children's Museum. Play along with and encourage your little ones to explore the ukulele, experience rhythm and dance with percussion instruments and scarves, and watch them take the stage. We welcome experienced ukulele players as well as brand new beginners. Taught by Aaron from the band Micah & Me. Bring the entire family for a musical adventure!

Bruce the Bear: Meet & Greet
Meet Bruce the Bear in person during select storytimes Nov. 24-Dec. 3. Storytime is every day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Children’s Coat Drive 9 a.m.–5 p.m. in the Lobby
Donate a new or gently used coat to child in need this winter. Portland Children's Museum is proud to partner with KairosPDX, an education focused non-profit attacking Portland’s persistent achievement gap through innovative pedagogy, community collaboration and family partnership. Please bring new or gently used child-size coats to the collection bin in the Portland Children's Museum lobby November 1 – 30.

Studio Harvest Collaborations 10 a.m.–3 p.m. in Clay Studio & Maker Studio
The Clay Studio and Maker Studio are getting into the fall spirit with their own art harvest collaborations. Come see what happens when we play with clay using gardening tools to create a pea patch in the Clay Studio. Use recycled materials to make fruits, veggies, and anything else you can imagine in the Maker Studio community garden.

Storytime 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. in the Treehouse
Gather round for Storytime at Portland Children’s Museum. Storytime features children’s books enjoyed by children of all ages and their caregivers read aloud by Museum Staff. Not only is Storytime fun, reading aloud with children enhances their language proficiency, communication, and listening skills. Reading stories out loud together can also help children create real world connections, prepare them for academic success, and support their imagination and creativity

Advanced Tool Time
10 a.m.–4 p.m. in the Maker Studio
Learn to safely use saws, drills, and other exciting tools to design and build your own projects from recycled materials. Join us for advanced tinkering and building activities facilitated by our Maker Space Specialist, Mike. All ages are welcome! 

Pottery Glazing
11 a.m.–1 p.m. in the Wonder Corner

Harvest Handprint Painting
12:30–2:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Finger Painting with an autumnal twist! Come play with paint and get messy with Max. Together we’ll use the colors of leaves on the trees and the animals in the forest to inspire our art and learn about the changing season.

Silly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
9:30–11 a.m. Noon in the Field Station
Join Amy for a morning of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) for little ones. This program features hands-on activities to help develop skills in pre-writing, sorting, counting, matching, and measuring.

Nature Kaleidoscopes
12:30–2:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Use shiny stones and dried plant bits to make your own nature-themed Kaleidoscope with Jered. Explore symmetry and reflection as we play with mirrors to create dazzling patterns with color and light.


WEDNESDAYS

Microscope Explorers: Nature's Bounty
10 a.m.–Noon in the Field Station
See nature in a whole new way! Bring your curiosity and find out how different natural objects look at a microscopic level. We’ll collect our favorite specimens from Outdoor Adventure and examine different textures, patterns, and colors using a handheld digital microscope.

Amazing Glazing: Gifts
12:30–2 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Join Dew Anna for ceramic painting featuring our most popular gift items. Choose from a variety of pre-made pottery and a colorful array of glazes for decorating.

THURSDAYS

Gentle Music for Babies and Pre-toddlers with Mr. Ben 
10–11 a.m. in the Treehouse (on Nov. 9th event will be held in the Theater)
Music is magic for children’s cognitive development, lighting up different regions of their rapidly developing brains in ways that nothing else does.  Partnering with the Portland Children’s museum, Mr. Ben brings his music directly to the younger set. His songs and the energy of the show are geared towards babies in arms, pre-toddlers, and children of any age that engage with calmer energy.

Harvest Dolls
12:30–2:30 p.m. in the Wonder Corner
Make your own doll out of corn husks and other natural materials with Emlyn. Learn about doll-making traditions from cultures around the world.


FRIDAYS

Nature Charms: Shrinky Dinks
10 am.–Noon in the East Studio
Transform your drawings into a wearable works of art with Liz. We’ll draw on shrink paper and cut out the creations, then watch as the drawings shrink and harden in the toaster oven. Now your creations are ready to become a pendant on a necklace, a charm bracelet, or a pin to wear or give as a gift.

Scent and Color Exploration with Mortar and Pestle
12:30–2:30 p.m. in The Market
Explore colors, textures, sounds and smells of a variety of fragrant spices and natural materials using a mortar and pestle. This sensory and kinesthetic activity ingnites the imagination, builds fine motor skills, and engages all five senses.

Fairy Acorn Tea Sets

Bring a little music into your life with your own wind chimes. Pick out a combination of hand-made ceramic discs, decorate them with special paint pens, and then hang them together to create an ornament that reflects your unique sound and style
