Facility Custodian - Substitute

Reports to: Director of Operations and Exhibits
Job status: Part time, variable schedule based on Museum needs.
Hourly Wage: $9.00-12.00 hourly, DOE

Summary of Position and Responsibilities
All Museum staff has a stake in maintaining a clean, safe and secure environment for the public. The Facility Custodian Substitute position will have a significant impact on this objective. This position will work within a variety of team structures to implement museum operations, policies and procedures to ensure a level of quality as defined by meeting or exceeding visitor expectations. The Facility Custodian Substitute's schedule will be based on needs within the department to cover vacations, illness, special events and any other support as determined by the Director of Operations and Exhibits

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform maintenance and janitorial duties pertaining to Museum exhibits and facility.
  • Keep museum exhibits and facility (interior and exterior) at a quality of maintenance and upkeep matching the museum's demands for quality in all programs.
  • Work closely with other departments based on their needs for set up, clean up and special projects.
  • Provide security support during museum hours as well as during special events and rentals.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies.
  • Participate in museum-wide recycling program.
  • Work as a team member with museum personnel on other tasks as assigned.

Job Qualifications/Specifications

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • Experience/Abilities
    • Knowledge of procedures, practices, techniques, tools, equipment and supplies used in maintaining public buildings, grounds and museum exhibits.
    • Sensitivity to the safety and security procedures necessary to protect the museum, its personnel and visitors and their property.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate and relate effectively to a wide variety of individuals; excellent oral and written skills.
    • Skilled at completing routine repairs with range of hand and power tools.
    • Able to work with the public and co-workers
    • Capable of lifting 50 pounds.
    • Ability and willingness to comply with all aspects and issues outlined in the Museum's Employee Manual and Operations Manual.
